In Tributes from Family
My grandmother was really the perfect example of what a grandmother should be. She would take care of my brothers and I as if she was the one that gave birth to us. Everytime we were in Nigeria, with the remaining money she had, she would always give us some Niara for our travels. There would be times we wouldn't use the money but holding on to it was a reminder of her kindness. We would even try to give it back but she would always insist we keep it for the next time we are in Nigeria. My grandmother even gave me a few nicknames that I still use to this day. One of them is Chiboy, this was the first one she made for me. Thus, only people older than me and that I consider family, can call me this. The next one is Emerie, I have many people that call me this but I only prefer to hear it from my grandmother. The last one, but my favorite one, is Uncle Chiemerie, this one came about because when my aunty had her child she gave him the same name as mine, so to call one of us so that the other does not get confused, she would make sure everyone in the house would call me Uncle Chiemerie. As a Nigerian, I love titles, so that made me feel proud. My gradmother was a woman of no enemies and many friends, and if anyone considered her an enemey, was an enemy of themselves. There was no one she did not pray for and the words "I love you" were always in her vocabulary. I love you and I pray you rest in peace. Chiemerie Nwankwo.
