Grandma, It’s still hard for me to believe that you are gone forever. Ever since I came to your home, you’ve been more of a mother, a teacher, an adviser, my guardian. You always checked on me whenever you didn’t see me in the morning to know if I was alright. You used to call me anytime I failed to come back at the normal time from school. You never failed to cheer me up whenever I was moody.
I miss your teachings especially on table setting, type of dishes and so on. I miss your stories, stories about the war, ‘on how you helped the wounded solider’, how you lived in Lagos with your strict uncle, how you met your darling husband, stories on how blessed you are with amazing children. You told me alot personal stories not minding that I am an outsider. You made me see how education is very important in the life of a woman always saying “Mimi guwa akwukwo, be financially stable, don’t be a slave in a man’s house”.
I got so many pieces of advice on relationships and health from you. The last Christmas/New Year eve I spent with you was amazing. Grandma, you were an amazing person, an angel in human form!.
I can now recall that on you last day you were actually trying to say goodbye, but I never understood it that way. We walked together to the conjunction, took a keke to the church then I went to school only to come back to know you were gone. Grandma your departure left me with a shock and gave me a different view of life in this world.
Grandma you have left this world but still in my heart!.
May your soul rest in peace, Ezinne!
Adieu mama!
Adieu Nne Ora!
Your foster daughter
